Facts You May Not Know About Green Foods – Part 1

January 7th, 2012

By Peter Hons

Whether you are searching for significant health changes or just looking to improve your stamina, green foods are one of the absolute necessities of well being.  Yet as common as they are, there are many things you may not know about green foods that may surprise you.

The difference between organic green vegetables and chemically produced greens is quite alarming as well. I will talk about this later, but for now let’s look at greens food basics.

There are broad leafy, gathered greens food and rising long stemmed varieties. All serve their purpose in aiding your body to peak perfection. Without them, life would simply not exist on the planet – or if there was life, those living things would more than likely be very different from what we know to exist today – and almost certainly, we would not be one of them.

Some Greens Food Contain More Nutrients Than Others

And yes, some greens do contain more nutrients than others? All green foods contain varying benefits but some have deeper and longer lasting effects on your body. Some contain more of certain minerals and/or vitamins and some just contain more nutrition overall. What is important then is understanding and becoming aware of those greens that are best for you.

For example: Did you know that most people think that by just adding lettuce to a meal it will be enough to make them healthy? Not so. You need a variety of green foods to do that job properly.

Lettuce is very popular, especially during summer. However many are not aware that it is only very light on the nutritional scale compared to a green food heavyweight such as broccoli. The benefit of lettuce though, is it’s cooling and refreshing quality and digestive lightness due to a crisp texture and having a high water content.

In general, the darker the green food, the richer it is in nutrition for the body. But as stated above, there are always benefits no matter what green food supplement you have. And certainly, in my opinion and experience, certified organic vegetables are far better for you any day than chemically produced varieties. Why? We will look at this is in a future article.
