We live with harmful carcinogenic chemicals every single day– the chemicals in our shampoos, soaps and other beauty aids, the fire retardant in most upholstery, rugs and bedding fabrics, the endocrine disruptor triclosan that is in almost everything in our homes, BPA in the plastic bottles and bubble packaging we buy, pesticides and e-coli in our food, and on and on and on.
It would be almost impossible for any of us, with the budgets we’re on, to completely rid our homes of these harmful substances. But if we all become aware and start using alternatives, whether homemade or commercial, wherever possible, we will eventually start to shed our homes of the worst of it all.
One of the easiest switches to make is with your cleaning products. White Vinegar and baking soda are two readily available alternatives.
Choosing, wherever possible, items packaged in glass or other recyclable and bpa-free packaging is another thing we can all do. Buying non-toxic bedding and clothing made from organics and not treated with flame retardants is a third.
I’ll be writing more articles about detoxifying our home environment over the next few months. Sign up for the newsletter using the box above if you’d like to be notified of future articles.
