Civil Eats Blog is reporting that “‘Consumer Reports’ latest tests of packaged leafy greens found bacteria that are common indicators of poor sanitation and fecal contamination, in some cases, at rather high levels. The story appears in the March 2010 issue of Consumer Reports and is also available free online.”
This is yet another reason for us to decentralize our food distribution system. If our food was grown and distributed locally, then these issues wouldn’t be so widespread and containment would be a whole lot easier. Not to mention all the burned diesel to transport veggies across the country to the packing plant, then back across the contry to where they’re consumed.
Though we all do have a choice– grow our own organic food* and/or buy food from local sources whenever we can. We’ll be covering a lot more on this best solution for healthy eating in the next coming weeks. Now is a good time to plan your own organic garden.
